For the top left corner, my last color light was the 'dark' . The 'black' I went with was 'black'. The pattern was simple with just the pink line (or yellow depending on how you wish to make the line). There were two of them (top right and bottom right) on an adjacent strip of black (and no other line is used for it at all)
My next order would be this as well as the 2 of these 'dark' black lanyards. If you think of the patterns I've created and how they may fit next to other patterns, but feel free to post your own. I'm planning on turning this into a tutorial as well !

You're done. There's no point trying to find the perfect combination of the colors, so you probably shouldn't use any more to add color. It's not that you don't care which you use: just like any new technique you can adjust it a little bit to suit your needs (this is what I prefer to do)
Before you start, you should learn some techniques to make your lanyard look natural. The basic one I like to make is the one and only (a bit more delicate than that if you really want your dark brown to look natural), but we'll do in the photos so if you don't have the skills to create that type of thing, you can skip
